The Centre for Investigation Research and Learning is currently seeking an experienced public relations officer to step up into a Senior Public Relations Officer role, leading our public relations team in the challenging and competitive non-profit industry across a virtualized office environment.

The Centre for Investigation Research and Learning is a non-profit which aims to improve quality of life and safety across communities by promoting education alongside increased scientific literacy and critical thinking skills. With a focus on evidence based reasoning, the Centre seeks to contribute to, strengthen and influence political policy objectives across all levels of government with particular regard to education, consumer protections and the STEM fields.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and coordination to a small public relations team
  • Provide mentoring to junior team members
  • Provide back up to the Media Communications Officer for requests to comment and interview by media organisations
  • Liaise with Partnerships Manager to deliver exposure to partnerships as required
  • Manage public relations related paperwork and sign off process
  • Assess and edit public relations releases prior to publication
  • Write media releases and articles for publication
  • Identify gaps and potential improvements in policies, framework and workflow
  • Work with the executive to develop processes, policies and frameworks for your team
  • Develop communications plans to achieve agreed media outcomes
  • Ongoing oversight and responsibility for unpaid media and public relations strategies
  • Liaise with internal departments as required to achieve communication objectives
  • Provide media briefings and coaching to company spokespeople
  • Manage key media campaigns throughout the year

Educational requirements:

  • Completion of a tertiary degree in Communications or a related field

Experience requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years prior experience in print or broadcast media, or a similar communications or public relations role
  • High level competency in writing for publication
  • Display a positive attitude, initiative and the desire to exceed expectations
  • Exceptional relationship management and oral communication skill at all levels and with others external to the organisation
  • Superior organisation skills to work on multiple tasks/projects concurrently
